2. CONNECT & COMMUNICATE

EVERYDAY ACTIONS

Practice these everyday actions every day.

These small actions will go a long way to building stress-free, safe and high performing teams.

CHECK-IN WITH YOUR M8TES

Check-in regularly and really listen. Holding regular one-on-one meetings, with your workm8tes is one of the important things you can do as a leader to make your workm8tes feel connected and valued. 

COMMUNICATE WITH IMPACT

Know how to communicate with impact. Use multiple communication methods. Your workm8tes prefer face-to-face, but make sure to follow-up in writing especially if it is complex or related to a change.

TACKLE THE TOUGH STUFF

Don’t shy away from the tough stuff – resolve conflict early, have those difficult conversations.

3. KNOW THE ISSUES

ANNUAL WORKM8TE PERFORMANCE PLAN

Learn about your workm8tes strengths, and stressors, and create opportunities to grow through the annual performance process. 

SPOT THE SIGNS OF STRESS IN THE BODY

Use the body mapping tool we've developed to identify areas of physical stress and strain in your workm8tes and then take action to address these before they turn into an injury.

KNOW HOW TO HAVE TOUGH PERSONAL CONVERSATIONS

This may be the most important conversation you have all year. To help we’ve created a guide to having tough personal conversations to help you take the crucial first step to help a struggling m8te. 

DESIGN A BETTER JOB 

Take a deep dive with our online survey to see how well designed your workm8te's job really is. See how it measures up and get a tailored prioritised action plan to address the areas of concern  to create a stress-free job they can thrive in.  

KNOW THE SIGNS OF A STRUGGLING M8

Know how to spot the signs of stress in a workm8te. Is the check engine warning light on?

Do you need to act before it escalates into a bigger problem?

4. EMPOWER ACTION

WORK TOGETHER TO DESIGN GOOD JOBS

Work together with your work8tes to co-design solutions to address areas of workplace stress and design a good and rewarding job for them. By doing this together you will see better and longer lasting results.

MAKE REASONABLE ADJUSTMENTS TO HOW WORK IS DONE

Take action early to prevent injury, and support your workm8tes to come back to work after an injury, by making reasonable adjustments to how work is done.

5. CLOSE THE LOOP & REVIEW REGULARLY

KEEP UP THE MOMENTUM

Keep the conversations going. Regularly check-in with your workm8tes, both casually in your regular one-on-one meetings and formally with a performance conversation every 3-6 months.

 

Be honest and transparent about progress - and if something isn't working.

Don’t force it. Try a different approach.

CLOSE THE LOOP WITH YOUR M8TES

Giving feedback shows workers that they are important, and asking for it helps you understand what is really going on. 

ACCOUNTABILITY FUELS SUCCESS

Accountability boosts worker performance by enabling task ownership, helps workm8tes have value and take pride in their work, and helps them to understand how they fit into the bigger picture.

REVIEW JOB DESIGN & RESPONSIBILITIES

Repeat the survey on job design and revisit your workm8te's roles and responsibilities annually or after any significant workplace or role change. 

RECOGNISE YOUR M8TES

A lack of recognition is the #1 reason workers say they leave their job.

Your workers want genuine verbal recognition for a job well done. Learn more about how to recognise your m8tes with impact.
